Position Overview

The Wastewater Division of the City of Canby Public Works Department has an exciting career opportunity for a Wastewater Maintenance Technician that possesses the ability to perform journey level equipment preventative maintenance and repair of wastewater mechanical equipment and systems. This multifaceted position will work with a dynamic operations team and will primarily focus on repair and preventative maintenance work, while completing a variety of operational tasks in a collaborative work environment.

A limited maintenance electrician (LME) license is desired. The anticipated work schedule is Monday through Thursday 6 am to 4:30 pm, with an on-call and weekend plant check rotation. Maintain and operate the City's wastewater treatment plant equipment and facilities under the guidance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor. Responsibilities include performing preventive maintenance, repairing equipment, troubleshooting electrical issues, calibrating instruments, managing inventory of critical parts, and maintaining the computerized maintenance management system.

This role requires a blend of technical proficiency, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities to ensure equipment reliability, monitor system performance, and maintain compliance with environmental regulations. Participation in the on-call rotation is required as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

The individual in this position is expected to engage in the following work-related activities.

  • Perform routine plant maintenance and cleaning activities, implement appropriate repairs to equipment, grounds and buildings.
  • Calibrate analyzers and meters (PH meters, D.O meters, level transducers, valve actuators, etc.) using established manufacturer guidelines.
  • Conduct routine meter readings, follow established schedules and enter data into applicable computerized system.
  • Understand and maintain accurate records of systems operation and maintenance. Daily operation and monitoring of 2-meter belt press.
  • Drive and operate a variety of vehicles and equipment including mowers, forklifts, and front end loaders.
  • Install, maintain, operate, and repair all types of industrial machinery including but not limited to; pumps, motors, variable frequency drives, piping, compressors, conveyors, tanks, sweeps, blowers, mixers, gear boxes, hydraulic systems, spiral screens, grit separators, clarifiers, aeration systems, solids handling equipment, UV disinfection equipment, flow meters, fans, heating and ventilation equipment, telemetry, instrumentation and programming.
  • Monitor, understand, and maintain Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system (SCADA).
  • Perform preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance on treatment plant and collection system equipment. This includes lubricating, cleaning, and replacing parts.
  • Complete and maintain electronic maintenance records, checklists, and daily logs. Update the parts inventory and order parts as needed.
  • Work with contractors on maintenance work performed at the plant and pump stations. Work with operations staff on appropriate maintenance procedures.
  • Fill in as a wastewater treatment plant operator as needed; train to recognize plant status, troubleshoot and perform corrective actions of the plant operations to ensure discharged water quality meets or exceeds the standards of EPA and the State of Oregon.
  • Work safely observing all OSHA, Federal, State, and City regulations.
  • On a rotational basis, collect and analyze samples using established laboratory procedures to ensure compliance with EPA and State of Oregon regulations.
  • Provide assistance to other staff as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Comply with safety requirements of the position and actively promote safe work practices
  • May be required to respond to after-hours emergencies and other work-related situations.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with City staff, other organizations, and the public.
