Sales Associate- Retail Hardware & Lumber

Overview

Sales Associates utilize their experience and knowledge of hardware and lumber products to provide excellent customer service to our retail customers. Sales Associates engage customers and help them find the products they need for DIY projects. Sales Associates are some of our most experienced and knowledgeable “handypersons” and are the go-to people for answers regarding product use, benefits and solutions.

• Greet customers and help them find the product they need.
• Answer phones and transfer calls to the correct person or department.
• Process cash, credit card and charge account POS transactions.
• Provide excellent customer service and issue receipts for all transactions entered into the POS system.
• Be aware of all sales events and special pricing to ensure accurate transactions.
• Verify credit card transactions with respect to card number, expiry date and signature of the customer.
• Ensure that all checks received are accompanied by the correct identification.
• Be alert to persons who are acting suspiciously for theft prevention and notify a manager if such activity is suspected.
• Keep the cash counter and surrounding area neat and tidy.
• Attend store meetings as required by management.
• Assume other duties as assigned by the store manager.

• Excellent communication skills; verbal, listening, and writing.
• Friendly and helpful demeanor.
• Good math skills.
• Willingness and ability to learn about building materials.
• Retail hardware/lumberyard knowledge and experience a plus.
