Benefit Specialist (Canfield, OH)

Summary - The Benefit Specialist provides exceptional customer service to members and providers regarding group benefit plans. The Specialist will answer phone inquiries, explain plan details, resolve issues promptly, and ensure member satisfaction. This position will require monthly travel to different Union Halls and locations to offer in-person support.


Key Responsibilities
include but not limited to
  • Direct Member and Provider Communication
    • Answer phone calls related to healthcare benefits and eligibility for those benefits.
      This is a call center environment.
    • Respond to emails, and in-person inquiries about deductibles, out-of-pocket costs, dental, vision, medical reimbursements, and reimbursement card benefits.
    • Clearly explain plan details and resolve inquiries accurately and efficiently.
    • Follow up with members to ensure their concerns are addressed.
    • Attend client and member meetings and events to answer questions on benefits and health coverage.
    • Monthly travel to different Union Halls and locations to offer in-person support, required.
  • Claims and Administration
    • Status claims when necessary.
    • Process disability claims and status claims during member calls.
    • Request check tracers and re-issuing of checks.
    • Create task inquiries and track their progress.
    • Mail members commonly requested forms and other correspondence.
  • Additional Support
    • Assist with claims/eligibility issues.
    • Coordinate phone coverage with colleagues.
  • Back-up Duties (Eligibility Coordinator)
    • Verify participant eligibility status.
    • Provide self-payment amounts.
    • Update participant addresses.
    • Explain requirements for adding dependents.
    • Mail vital information forms.
Qualifications
  • Empathy and Patience: Ability to understand and support members with diverse needs.
  • Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution: Skilled in resolving complex issues and handling difficult situations professionally.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, including clear explanations to members, providers, and officials.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple inquiries, and maintain detailed records.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in using relevant software and systems.
  • Benefits Knowledge: Understanding of various group benefit plans and their rules.
  • Additional Skills: Multitasking, attention to detail, quick typing, willingness to learn new skills.
  • Attendance: Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Preferred

    Qualification:

    Fluent in both Spanish and English
Education and/or Experience
  • Post-High School education or related work experience preferred.
Work Environment
  • Fast-paced, phone-intensive, potentially stressful. Requires composure and teamwork.
Work Schedule - Full-time. Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm. Requires in-office days but also offers at-home flexibility after 90 days.

Pay - Hourly pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00. Actual rate dependent on location, skills, education, experience and other business factors.
