Long Term Substitute Mathematics

South Range Local Schools is seeking a long term substitute mathematics teacher for middle school, fifth through eighth grade. The position requires a valid license in grades 4-9 or PK-8 from the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce. The salary is $110 per day, with base pay at step 0 of the negotiated agreement after 60 days. The starting date is August 31, 2026.

Job Description:

The teacher will make short and long-range plans, correlate individual instructional objectives with school and district goals, adhere to principles of growth and development in planning, plan lessons using the sequence of skills in the adopted curriculum, and have an ongoing program to diagnose and assess needs and progress of individual students. The teacher will plan for individual differences, adjust the physical environment to accommodate variety in learning situations, and cooperate with others in planning lessons.

The teacher will manage time efficiently, organize well, keep accurate records, and be attentive to and respond to conditions that affect the health and safety of students. The teacher will organize work so that substitute teachers can function with minimal difficulty, keep the area of responsibility neat, orderly, and organized, motivate learners, and utilize resources. The teacher will use instructional techniques, encourage students to think, use a variety of teaching techniques and instructional materials, conduct stimulating class discussions, and use appropriate evaluative techniques to measure student progress.

The teacher will enable students to share in carrying out classroom activities, communicate with students individually and/or in groups, show flexibility in carrying out teaching activities, create an atmosphere of mutual respect between students and teacher, enable students to learn how to work independently and in groups, monitor the progress of students, and understand and effectively use a hierarchy of questioning skills.

The teacher will participate in the development and implementation of school policies and procedures, maintain good professional rapport with colleagues, keep self-sufficiently up to date in areas of specialization to teach the adopted curriculum, take advantage of in-service education opportunities, participate in school and system wide committees, supervise the behavior of pupils when on school property or at school sponsored events, share ideas, materials, and methods with professional colleagues, share in the evaluation of the effectiveness of educational program, consult with teachers, supervisors, administrators, and other specialists available to the teacher to improve the teaching/learning process, be on time for classes and assigned duties, follow school rules, board policies, and administrative directives, and interpret school programs to parents and to the community as opportunities occur.

The teacher will maintain professional attitude and demeanor with respect to all school functions and activities and be amenable to parents who visit the classes of their children, conduct constructive parent conferences, interpret learning programs to parents, stress a positive approach in parent relations, and maintain confidentiality in relations with parents.
