Description Of Job

This position retains all financial transactions for inmates in Colorado prison facilities, posting deposits and withdrawals to each inmate bank account and Department of Corrections control accounts through DCIS/PCDCIS.

Primary Duties
  • Apply policies, procedures, fiscal rules, and statutes to determine efficient inmate bank accounting.
  • Receive and batch all financial transactions, including curio sales, cashier reports, money orders, payrolls, postage, telephone, Xerox, photos, medical charges, damaged property, hobbies, repairs, and other miscellaneous charges.
  • Calculate and post transactions to accounts via DCIS/PCDCIS.
  • Audit and verify DCIS inmate bank totals.
  • Reconcile DCIS totals with Wells Fargo Bank totals for the Inmate Fund.
  • Investigate and correct transaction discrepancies in DCIS totals.
  • Obtain and compare court‑ordered fines and fees, using CJIS, DCIS/PCDCIS, mittimus, motions, orders, Register of Action, and financial summaries to justify modifications and collections.
  • Ensure transaction accuracy and compliance with GAAP, state fiscal rules, and statutes.
  • Maintain garnishment orders for restitution, child and dependent support, and filing fees.
  • Generate restitution reports and analyze data for monthly court payouts.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Residency Requirement

Only residents of the State of Colorado apply.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Four (4) years of professional accounting experience.
  • Alternatively, 27 semester hours in accounting or auditing plus relevant experience totaling four (4) years.
  • Current, valid CPA license from the Colorado Board of Accountancy substitutes for the four‑year requirement.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
  • Minimum age 21 years.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid U.S. work authorization; no H‑1B sponsorship.
  • Successful completion of the six‑week Colorado Department of Corrections basic training, including Defensive Tactics and basic competency assessments.

  • Experience performing general ledger accounting.
  • Experience with the Colorado Operations Resource Engine (CORE).
  • Experience with account reconciliation.
  • Experience addressing offender grievances.
