We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Personal Assistant to engage a 9-year-old boy with PDA autism, Down syndrome, and obesity in fun and supportive activities that promote weight loss and overall well‑wellness. This role aims to create a positive environment where he can develop healthy habits through enjoyable physical activities tailored to his interests and abilities.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop a weekly schedule of fun and interactive activities that encourage movement and exercise, keeping in mind his preferences and comfort levels.
Activities:
Organize age‑appropriate, low‑pressure physical activities such as:
- Nature walks or outings to parks
- Swimming sessions
- Playtime at local playgrounds
- Light games like tag, frisbee, or catch
- Dance parties with favourite music
Collaborate with caregivers to introduce healthy eating habits through fun cooking activities or snacks that incorporate fruits and vegetables. Assist in having educational discussions about nutrition in a simple and engaging manner.
Facilitate playdates or group activities with peers to promote social skills and make physical activity a shared experience.
Encourage and celebrate small achievements in physical activity and healthy eating, fostering a positive attitude toward weight management.
Be attentive to his energy levels and mood, adjusting activities to ensure they are fun and not overwhelming or frustrating.
Ensure a safe environment by supervising activities closely and providing necessary support including personal care as needed.
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs.
- Understanding of autism spectrum disorders and Down syndrome.
- Knowledge of obesity management and healthy lifestyle options for children.
- Patience, creativity, and a genuine interest in promoting children's health and well‑being.
£12.21 per hour.
This role is vital in improving the child's quality of life through enjoyable activities that contribute to his health goals while fostering joy, confidence, and social connections.
