Mobile Vehicle Technician – SMR Division
Key Details
- A competitive base salary of £40,178, with on-target earnings up to £52,000
- A guaranteed overtime option to increase your base salary to £44,385, plus additional overtime and bonus opportunities
- 40 hours per week, with core hours 8:30‑17:00, and 1 in 4 Saturdays
The RAC’s Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division delivers planned, structured repair and servicing directly to members—from their driveway to their workplace car park. Work is scheduled, with all tools and support provided. There are no emergency callouts or roadside recoveries.
You’ll work from the Bournville cluster, covering Bournville, Selly Oak, Northfield, Kings Norton, and Stirchley. You’ll travel locally to pre‑booked appointments, enabling focused, quality work.
Daily WorkYou’ll carry out:
- Routine servicing
- Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
- In‑depth repairs normally performed in a workshop
- Member advice and recommendations based on inspection
- Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards

Colleague Share Scheme upon successful probation
Either:
- NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
- 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
and a full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.
