A growing construction company in Canton, GA is seeking a detail‑oriented Staff Accountant to support daily accounting operations, job cost accuracy, and financial reporting. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of routine accounting duties and project‑based work, with exposure to job costing, billing, and field operations. The Staff Accountant will work closely with project managers, the Controller/Director of Finance, and cross‑functional teams to ensure financial data is timely, accurate, and compliant.

Responsibilities
  • Perform daily and monthly general ledger activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Support job costing by reviewing labor, materials, subcontractor invoices, and equipment charges for accuracy.
  • Assist with AP/AR processing, including vendor coding, invoice entry, customer billings, and payment application.
  • Prepare and analyze job cost reports and support project managers in understanding variances.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit card transactions, and company purchasing activity.
  • Assist with month-end close and preparation of financial statements.
  • Maintain documentation and support compliance with internal accounting policies.
  • Assist with payroll reporting, certified payroll, and other construction‑specific filings (if applicable).
  • Prepare supporting schedules for audits, insurance renewals, and financial reviews.
  • Support retention tracking, lien waivers, subcontract compliance, and job‑related documentation.
  • Help implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy within the accounting function.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • 1–4 years of accounting experience, ideally within construction, contracting, or a project‑based environment
    .
  • Familiarity with job cost accounting concepts is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with accounting software; construction ERP (Sage 300, Viewpoint, Foundation, Quick Books Contractor Edition, or similar) a plus.
  • Proficient in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and collaborate with field and office teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working with project managers and vendors.
  • Self‑starter with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
