Special Education teachers in GCPS are vital to ensuring that all students, including those with disabilities, have access to our district’s rigorous Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum through individualized instruction, collaboration, and data-driven support.
Position SummaryThe Interrelated Resource (IRR) Teacher provides direct and consultative special education services to students with mild to moderate disabilities. This role supports students in accessing the general education curriculum through specially designed instruction, targeted interventions, and collaboration with classroom teachers. The IRR teacher serves as a case manager, ensuring compliance with IDEA and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that promote academic and behavioral growth.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Provide direct instruction and/or resource support to students with disabilities based on IEP goals and the GCPS AKS curriculum.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to modify and adapt lessons, assessments, and classroom strategies to meet diverse student needs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
- Collect and analyze student data to guide instruction and measure progress toward academic and behavioral goals.
- Participate in eligibility, IEP, and placement meetings, maintaining accurate due process documentation.
- Provide behavioral and instructional strategies to promote positive classroom engagement and student independence.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and strategies for home support.
- Engage in professional learning and contribute to a culture of collaboration and inclusion within the school.
- Support students with physical or personal care needs as appropriate to the setting.
Must meet or be willing to meet Georgia certification requirements in Special Education.
EducationBachelor’s degree in an applicable field from a Professional Standards Commission (PSC)-approved college or university required.
ExperiencePrevious teaching or work-related experience preferred.
Skills- Strong knowledge of special education laws (IDEA) and due process requirements.
- Ability to integrate technology and evidence-based instructional strategies to enhance learning.
- Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of the GCPS Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum and effective differentiation practices.
