Production and Shift Leadership- Lead and oversee all second-shift production activities to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity expectations.
- Establish daily work priorities and assign employees and resources based on production requirements.
- Monitor hour-by-hour production performance and take timely action when output falls behind established expectations.
- Maintain an active presence on the production floor and provide real-time direction and support to employees.
- Ensure employees remain engaged in assigned work, follow break and attendance expectations, complete required documentation, and comply with established work standards.
- Make timely decisions and adjust staffing, workflow, and production priorities as conditions change.
- Conduct shift meetings and ensure effective communication of safety concerns, quality issues, production priorities, and business updates.
- Provide clear shift handoffs regarding production status, equipment concerns, quality issues, and outstanding priorities.
- Serve as the primary technical resource for machining operations during second shift and provide hands-on support to operators as needed.
- Troubleshoot CNC machining, setup, tooling, work holding, and process issues that impact production.
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of CNC machine operation, setups, tooling, offsets, feeds and speeds, and tool wear.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
- Understand CNC programs and G-code sufficiently to identify potential programming or process issues and make approved minor adjustments when appropriate.
- Support operators with machine setups, changeovers, tooling selection, work offsets, and process verification.
- Identify machining conditions such as chatter, poor surface finish, dimensional variation, tool failure, or process instability and determine appropriate corrective action.
- Verify that operators are following established setup documentation, work instructions, inspection requirements, and manufacturing processes.
- Recognize when an issue requires escalation to Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, or other technical resources and communicate sufficient technical detail to support resolution.
- Assist with machine operation or production activities when necessary to maintain workflow and meet customer requirements.
- Ensure production is completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, inspection requirements, and customer quality standards.
- Support first-part and in-process inspection activities and ensure operators understand required measurement methods and inspection frequency.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of precision measurement equipment including calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gauges, bore gauges, and other applicable inspection tools.
- Stop or contain production when quality requirements are not being met and coordinate appropriate corrective action.
- Partner with Quality and Engineering to investigate recurring defects, scrap, and process variation.
- Ensure required production, quality, scrap, and traceability documentation is completed accurately.
- Supervise, coach, and develop hourly production employees.
- Set clear performance and behavioral expectations and hold employees accountable for meeting established standards.
- Provide timely feedback and coaching regarding productivity, quality, safety, attendance, and workplace conduct.
- Address employee relations and performance concerns in partnership with Operations leadership and Human Resources.
- Complete performance reviews and maintain appropriate employee documentation.
- Identify employee skill gaps and coordinate training and cross-training to strengthen second-shift capabilities.
- Develop operators' technical skills and encourage employees to independently troubleshoot within the boundaries of their roles.
- Identify inefficiencies, recurring production problems, and opportunities to improve manufacturing processes.
- Participate in and support 5S, Lean, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement activities.
- Develop and implement action plans to improve productivity, reduce scrap, improve quality, and minimize downtime.
