Children’s Director – Job Description
Position Overview
The Children’s Director provides vision, leadership, and oversight for all ministry environments serving birth‑5th grade. This role disciples children, equips parents, develops volunteers, and creates excellent weekly and seasonal programming. The Children’s Director works closely with the Assistant Director and Family Ministry Coordinator and reports to the Family Pastor.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all weekly children’s ministry programming (Sundays, mid‑week, and special events).
- Develop a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment for children and families.
- Recruit, train, schedule, and encourage volunteer teams.
- Select and implement age‑appropriate curriculum and teaching resources.
- Partner with parents through communication, training opportunities, and family events.
- Plan and lead major ministry events such as VBS, camps, and outreach events.
- Maintain safety procedures, check‑in systems, and classroom standards.
- Oversee ministry budgets and resource needs.
- Provide spiritual leadership to children through teaching, prayer, and discipleship moments.
- Supervise and collaborate with the Children’s Assistant Director.
- Work with the church Communications Director to establish and execute a social media communication plan.
- Passion for children’s discipleship and family ministry.
- Experience leading volunteers and managing programs.
- Strong organization, communication, and relational skills.
- Previous ministry leadership experience preferred.
- Maintain and encourage a teamwork mentality and culture.
- Bachelor’s degree required; ministry‑related degree preferred.
- 3–5+ years of experience in family or children’s ministry leadership.
