Clinical Nurse Specialist
The Clinical Risk Manager will be responsible for clinical aspects of risk management and will be the liaison to the clinical staff of St. Joseph's/Candler Health System. Within this job responsibility will be the following areas: investigation of claims and potential claims, preparation of clinical case reviews, assisting defense counsel in preparation of litigation, serves as active member of the Sentinel Events Committee, risk management resource to clinical areas on the sentinel event process, assist with preparation of root cause analysis documents, clinical education and clinical research.
Maintains open communication and is available to subsidiaries and practitioner sites for consultation. The ability to perform risk management functions and responsibilities, to include evaluating risks within the clinical areas of the System and reporting to the appropriate parties, reviewing medical record requests from attorneys, serving as risk management resource for clinical departments and committees dedicated to clinical focus. Must be able to interact and communicate with defense counsel and clinical staff/management regarding litigation preparation.
Provides education for clinical staff based on risk management process and data.
Bachelors in Nursing - Required
Masters in Nursing - Preferred
Experience3-5 Years Nursing - Required
License & CertificationProfessional License with State of Practice - Required
Core Job Functions- Serves as the clinical risk management resource to all co-workers and medical staff in response to adverse events and patient/family/visitor concerns.
- Make daily rounds to promote risk management awareness and collaboration among co-workers and medical staff in the deliverance of safe patient care.
- Actively participates in nursing and quality committees dedicated to clinical focus and process improvement. Assists inFLT development of root cause analysis. Assists in monitoring specified risk strategies for effectiveness.
- Prepares clinical case reviews for adverse event reporting to excess carrier and primary investigation documentation for defense counsel.
- Works closely with defense counsel in defending claims through depositions, discovery and trial preparation.
