POSITION PURPOSE

The Coordinator of Transportation is responsible for the day-to-day administration, supervision, coordination, and operation of the district's transportation program. The Coordinator ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable transportation of students while supporting district goals related to safety, operational excellence, customer service, and continuous improvement. The Coordinator serves as the operational leader of the transportation department and assists the Director of Safety and Transportation in implementing district transportation and safety initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

• High school diploma or GED required.

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in school transportation, fleet management, logistics, public transportation, or related field.

• Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or leadership experience.

• Possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.

• Meet all South Carolina Department of Education transportation requirements.

• Demonstrated knowledge of school transportation operations, routing systems, fleet management, and transportation safety regulations.

• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community stakeholders.

• Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supervising transportation personnel in a K-12 school district.

• Experience with transportation routing software.

• Experience in budget management and operational planning.

• Knowledge of South Carolina school transportation regulations and procedures.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Coordinate and oversee daily transportation operations for all district schools.

• Supervise daily dispatch operations and route assignments.

• Ensure all transportation routes are staffed and operating efficiently.

• Coordinate transportation services for field trips, athletic events, extracurricular activities, and summer programs.

• Monitor route performance and recommend improvements.

• Assist with route design, planning, and optimization.

• Coordinate substitute driver assignments and staffing coverage.

• Address operational challenges and service interruptions.

• Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, and job performance.

• Assist with recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts.

• Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and customer service.

• Promote and maintain a safe transportation environment for students and staff.

• Coordinate school bus evacuation drills and transportation safety training.

• Review transportation surveillance footage as necessary.

• Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules with maintenance personnel.

• Monitor vehicle utilization and assignments.

• Ensure compliance with state inspection requirements.

• Assist with fleet replacement planning and vehicle acquisition recommendations.

• Monitor fuel usage and operational efficiency.

• Maintain transportation inventories and records.

• Coordinate new driver orientation and training programs.

• Conduct transportation safety meetings and professional development activities.

• Assist with CDL training and endorsement maintenance.

• Promote continuous professional growth among transportation personnel.

• Serve as a liaison between schools and the transportation department.

• Respond to parent and community concerns regarding transportation services.

• Collaborate with principals and district administrators to resolve transportation issues.

• Communicate transportation updates, delays, and route changes.
