MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or successful completion of a GED testing program; valid Georgia Class B CDL Driver's License with S & P endorsements: to be acquired within 30 days of employment or as scheduling permits;
Third Party CDL Tester Certification preferred. Five or more years working in a school bus transportation program; experience in safety training is preferred. General knowledge of driving, bus safety and working with people.

GOAL

Provide assistance and recommendations regarding safety issues, and manage the Federal Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrate prompt and appropriate attendance.
  • Communicate effectively with the public.
  • Evaluate bus drivers by direct observation during routes.
  • Assist with training requirements of new trainees.
  • Evaluate load counts, turnarounds and bus routes for safety and procedures.
  • Assist drivers in student-management techniques.
  • Retrieve and view videotapes as needed.
  • Evaluate route requests.
  • Assist with complaints from drivers and parents relating to bus routes.
  • Provide reports, schedules, data and computer-generated charts.
  • Drive or monitor bus routes as needed.
  • Assist in securing emergency substitutes.
  • Return phone calls involving route information.
  • Assist in managing all full-time and part-time relief drivers.
  • Coordinate and develop school bus routes using the school system computer routing system.
  • Meet with drivers and school personnel to maintain accurate student records and bus routes utilizing the school district's computer-routing system.
  • Monitor buses and load counts to ensure efficiency of routing.
  • Maintain accurate school boundary lines in the school system computer-routing system, and assist the Planning and Forecasting Department with the changes and recommendations.
  • Download student data regularly to keep routing information updated.
  • Receive mapping information from the county, and maintain accurate road and house number data in the computer routing system.
  • Assist in special education bus routing including midday routes, CBI, pre-school and summer school routes.
  • Provide written correspondence to appropriate staff in order to make route changes necessary.
  • Conduct CDL training and testing if applicable.
  • Manage the GBI Sex Offender Website and determine appropriate stop location.
  • Assist with driver evaluations and safety procedures.
  • Assist and ensure compliance with the Federal Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
  • Assist with interviews, training and orientation of new personnel.
  • Manage and track data for the Accident Review Committee.
  • Inform the Coordinator of Transportation Routing/Operations of situations involving safety, traffic, efficiency, bus stops, school loading zones and any other personnel matter requiring attention.
  • Evaluate and/or create computer programs used in Transportation.
  • Ensure computer security and pass codes.
  • Maintain technology including the server, web and other equipment.
  • Provide staff development training as required.
  • Compile reports on trends, benchmarks, etc., analyze data and manage personnel records.
  • Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/or credential as may be required for this position.
  • Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner.
  • Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to the assignment.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical source information related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
