PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The faculty is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of instruction and related activities in a variety of delivery modalities. The faculty is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, and/or weekend on any Spoon River College campus as assigned. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, instructional counseling, and serving on various committees. Faculty performs all other duties as directed by the appropriate Instructional Administrator or designee.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Plans and teaches courses in an assigned discipline.

* Prepares course syllabi using the college-approved template within the syllabus management system.

* Prepares instructional materials, and coordinates lectures, course activities, labs, and the means for student assessment.

* Teaches all courses according to the course syllabi and provides evaluation procedures and attendance expectations.

* Maintains appropriate records and submits required reports, grades, etc., according to deadlines.

* Maintains scheduled on-campus hours as required in the collective bargaining agreement.

* Actively attends and participates in committees, meetings, professional development sessions, and commencement.

* Recommends textbooks, library books, and other instructional materials.

* Assists in the organization of, and meetings with, college committees, including but not limited to college governance committees.

* Assists with the initiation and development of new courses, concentrations, and programs and the revision of the same.

* Communicates with faculty, staff, administration, and students through the use of college-provided email or LMS messaging system in a timely fashion.

* Maintains a safe classroom environment and reports all incidents of injury, illness, theft, or threats of violence.

* Utilizes the college LMS for all courses. Required components include course syllabus, course messaging and announcements, grade book, and student evaluations.

* Ensures all digital course materials are American with Disability Act (ADA) compliant.

* Participates in the College's General Education Assessment Program by examining, measuring, reporting, and implementing improvements regarding student success.

* Assists in the recruitment and retention of students which includes but is not limited to college visit days, high school visits, student activities, and other recruitment and retention events.

* Observes, supports, and enforces the policies of the college.

* Provides appropriate leadership and supervision of student activities where applicable.

* Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. * A master's degree in the applicable subject area from a regionally accredited institution is required.

* Teaching experience is required, preferably in a community college setting.
