The Senior Cost Accountant supports the day-to-day accounting operations, with a focus on cost accounting, accurate financial reporting, and inventory control. This role works closely with Operations, Production, and Finance leadership to ensure financial integrity, compliance, and timely month-end close.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain accurate cost accounting system that ensures accurate costing
- Responsible for all cost accounting activities, including standard cost maintenance, variance analysis, and production reporting
- Reconcile inventory accounts and assist with physical inventory counts and cycle counts
- Analyze manufacturing variances (labor, material, overhead) and communicate findings to management
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and cost-related entries
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Assist in preparing financial statements and internal management reports
- Support audits by providing documentation and explanations as needed
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Perform other accounting and finance duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum of 3-5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
Skills and Abilities
- Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, inventory and cost accounting
- Strong proficiency with accounting systems and ERP software (Epicor preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas)
- Solid understanding of GAAP
- Online banking experience preferred
- High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
- Strong organizational and problem solving skills
- Must be a team player who also works well independently
