The John
F. Kennedy Elementary School is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as the
Library Aide beginning at the s tart of the school year. The candidate will join a vibrant and supportive team that places a high priority on collaboration, creativity, flexibility, and commitment to the goals of the District and to students, families, and staff.

F. Kennedy School promote academic growth and social-emotional learning and ensure high-quality teaching and learning through purposeful design and rigorous and equitable experiences.
The Library Aide will work
30 hours per week,empowering students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, and ethical users of information. The library program is essential to learning and teaching and must be fully integrated into the curriculum and aligned to the School Improvement Plan to promote students’ achievement of learning goals and objectives.
- Supervise children during class visits to ensure a safe environment.
- Read aloud to five classes each day, encouraging student reflection, engagement, and participation throughout the experience.
- Select and process appropriate books to add to the library collection, ensuring they reflect the diversity of our student population and families.
- Encourage students to read for understanding, pleasure, and the exploration of diverse viewpoints and genres.
- Create a welcoming environment for elementary school children while teaching students how to effectively and responsibly use the library.
- Support students in locating and accessing appropriate resources to assist with class assignments.
- Collaborate, support, and share space with the Digital Learning Specialist.
- Assist teachers in locating materials to support student projects and classroom instruction.
- Maintain circulation and all material records using Follett Destiny library software.
- Maintain the library catalog and update and weed materials periodically ensuring the collection is diverse, current and aligned with grade level curriculum.
- Help students check out materials, inspect returned books for damage, and send out over due notices for unreturned items.
- Plan and advertise special library events, such as book fairs and author visits.
- Create promotional displays and materials, such as thematic reading lists.
- Manage library budget.
Perform other duties specifically articulated within the collective bargaining agreement as assigned by the building principal and/or District administration, which includes 60 minutes of duties each week.
