Job DescriptionCanton High School is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to join our English department for the school year and beyond. This educator will join a vibrant and supportive team that places a high priority on collaboration, creativity, flexibility, and commitment to the goals of the District and to our students, families, and staff.
Canton High School is an inclusive community for all students and staff and serves over 960 students in grades 9-12. Canton High School is committed to a school culture and climate that promotes academic growth and social-emotional learning for every student, and ensures high-quality teaching and learning through the purposeful design of rigorous and equitable student experiences. The English department serves students in all four grades and offers classes at the College Prep, Honors, and Advanced Placement (AP) levels, while providing a safe, supportive, and welcoming educational environment for all students.
PERFORMANCERESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences to meet the needs of all learners
- Develop lesson plans that align with state standards and district-determined high-quality instructional practices and are culturally and linguistically responsive
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
- Continuously engage in reflective practice regarding curricula, instruction, and assessments
- Build strong relationships with students to create a culture of belonging
- Incorporate a variety of culturally and linguistically responsive learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
- Identify, select, and implement data-driven differentiated instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and resources aligned to District-approved curriculum and/or Massachusetts State Standards
- Use relevant technology to support instruction
- Follow and implement IEPs, 504s, health care plans, behavior support plans etc.
- Observe and evaluate student performance and development using data; use data to drive decisions and adapt instruction, assessments, and assignments as appropriate
- Provide appropriate and timely feedback on assessments and/or student work
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress, development, and attendance as appropriate
- Support the social and emotional well-being of students during the school day
- Manage student behavior in the classroom and school by establishing accountability measures following the student handbook
- Participate in department and school-based professional development
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs
- Remain current in subject area pedagogy, teaching resources, and innovative instructional practices, and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
- Collaborate with student services staff, including special educators, and other related service providers
- Performs other duties specifically articulated within the collective bargaining agreement and as assigned by the building principal and/or District administration
- Maintain valid Massachusetts DESE educator licensure that is appropriate for the grade level and subject area
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in the subject area
- Highly qualified as defined by Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), including the completion of a teacher preparation program
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Well-organized with exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
- Strong working knowledge of relevant instructional technologies, including the Google suite
