Job DescriptionThe Canton Public Schools is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as the Long Term Substitute – Multilingual Learner Teacher at the Galvin Middle School. The ML Teacher will join a vibrant and supportive team that places a high priority on collaboration, creativity, flexibility, and commitment to the goals of the District and to our students, families, and staff.
This is a 3 day a week, 0.6 long‑term substitute position from August 31, 2026 to end of November 2026.

Performance Responsibilities- Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
- Develop lesson plans that align with state and WIDA standards
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
- Prepare the classroom for class activities
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
- Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
- Use relevant technology to support instruction
- Observe and evaluate students’ performance and development
- Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments
- Provide appropriate feedback on work
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
- Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, district policies and school regulations
- Prepare required reports on students and activities
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
- Apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary
- Participate in department and school meetings, parent meetings
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
- Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
- Valid Massachusetts DESE teacher certification ESL 6-12 license;
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university - Highly qualified as per Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
- Proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies, including administrators, parents/guardians, teachers, students, other school staff, and visitors
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Well‑organized with excellent leadership abilities
- Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
- Working knowledge of relevant technologies: internet and email systems; word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software; and educational software
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school department may find appropriate and acceptable
