Luce Elementary School 2nd Grade Special Educator (Long term Sub – Aug 2026 to Nov 2026, possible extension to Feb 2027)

Job SummaryThe Luce Elementary School is seeking a dynamic 2nd grade Special Educator to serve the upcoming school year beginning in August 2026. The role will be part of a collaborative team focused on student growth, creativity, flexibility, and commitment to the district’s goals.
Performance Responsibilities- Participate in federal and state child‑find procedures and identify students requiring special education services.
- Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) with the team, establishing short‑ and long‑term goals based on assessment data.
- Participate in case‑management procedures, including team meetings and liaison to regular‑education settings.
- Schedule and instruct assigned students in the designated locations and times.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan a program that meets each student’s needs, interests, and abilities.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and engagement.
- Guide learning toward the achievement of curriculum standards, setting clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
- Employ varied instructional techniques and media.
- Document student work regularly and provide progress reports as required.
- Seek assistance from district specialists as needed.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate records in compliance with law, policy, and regulations.
- Follow and implement safety plans, IEPs, 504s, health‑care plans, and behavior support plans.
- Assist in implementing school policies and develop classroom rules, maintaining order fairly.
- Communicate regularly with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians about progress and needs.
- Coordinate instructional plans with Educational Support Professionals.
- Participate in department, school, and parent/guardian meetings.
- Stay informed on developments in the subject area and adjust instructional plans accordingly.
- Maintain cooperative relationships with others.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or district administration.
- Valid Massachusetts DESE teacher certification appropriate for Grade 2 and special education (Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution).
- Highly Qualified status per Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
- Ability to relate to administrators, parents/guardians, teachers, students, and other staff.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organization and leadership abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Working knowledge of technology: internet/email, word processing, presentation, spreadsheet software, and educational software.
- Alternatives to the above qualifications may be considered if deemed appropriate.
Work Year: 183 days
Compensation: $353.50/day
Reports To: Building Principal
Supervises: Not Applicable
