Job Shift: Day The ESL Teacher is responsible for planning individualized and group instruction.

Educational/Work History Requirements:
  • Possesses a minimum of Bachelor degree (may obtain a waiver from Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education)
  • Has license to teach in Massachusetts in appropriate area
  • Has the stamina and physical endurance for a demanding teaching schedule.
  • Possesses excellent problem solving, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Completes job with minimal supervision.
  • Works as many hours as necessary to complete the essential duties of the position.
Essential Duties of the Position:
  • Must be willing to learn about the JRC students, their disabilities and the forms of treatment provided at JRC.
  • Must be willing to be responsible for the safety and welfare of the JRC students.
  • Must be able to understand the gravity of their responsibility for the safety and care of the JRC students and be willing to perform their duties diligently.
  • Supervises and provides individual and group instruction to students.
  • Works in conjunction with the classroom teacher in assigning daily lessons and homework.
  • Provides quarterly assessments and information for reports as needed.
  • Addresses the goals and objectives of each student’s IEP in appropriate area
  • Writes bi-weekly lesson plans which indicate the goals and objectives/benchmarks in IEP.
  • Submits comprehensive and complete bi-weekly lesson plans, charts, homework when due.
  • Attends progress review meetings and develops goals and objectives for IEPs.
  • Must be able to physically restrain assaultive students (with possible assistance of one or several staff members) after training.
  • Follows student’s behavioral program as written in treatment plan and arranges appropriate consequence
  • Attends weekly meetings held by the Director of Education or his/her designee.
  • Attends Parents’ Visiting Day to meet with parents.
  • Submit request/suggestion forms to the Special Education Director or his/her designee regarding supplies needed.
  • Reads JRC Discussion Board and posts a minimum of 1 message every 2 weeks.
  • Participates in at least two hours per month of in-service training.
  • Engages in incidental learning whenever possible.
  • Reports abuse to JRC and appropriate agencies.
  • May be required to act as “Head of Provider” or “Authorized Staff Person”, when needed to monitor and approve emergency restraint.
  • May be required to act as “Staff in Attendance”

Skills:
  • Possess excellent interpersonal /communication skills.
  • Reacts to change productively and handles other essential tasks as assigned.
  • Knows state/federal educational regulations for disabled persons.
  • Reacts to student’s inappropriate behaviors in a calm, detached, assertive manner.
  • Dresses in a professional appearance and maintains proper demeanor.
Physical Demands of Position:
  • Communicates clearly and concisely in English.
  • Has 20/20 vision or correctable to 20/20 with corrective lenses.
  • Can stand and walk for at least 20% of the workday.
  • Can sit for at least 80% of the workday.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Normal depth perception is required.

(Position may involve kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and handling during the teaching process and/or whenever assisting direct care staff in the classroom.)
