The Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children operated by the Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a 3rd Class Power Plant Engineer
- CoGen to join its facilities team. This position operates, maintains, and/or repairs high pressure boilers and auxiliary machinery and equipment; cleans machinery and equipment; responds to emergencies or equipment breakdowns; maintains adequate supply of fuel; and performs other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
This is a 40 hour a week position, working Monday-Friday 6:00 AM- 2:30pm
DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Operate a high-pressure steam power plant under the supervision of a Chief Power Plant Engineer on an assigned plant watch.
2.Read, record and monitor various gauges, instruments, and charts for proper operation of a steam power plant, on a continuous basis.
3.Place boilers, turbine and electrical pumps, generators and other auxiliary equipment in and out of service as needed by plant demand.
4.Respond, on a 24-hour schedule, to any plant emergencies that occur.
5.Process telephone calls of every nature for the entire hospital campus and call in help or other appropriate actions needed to resolve power plant/engineering- related problems that may arise.
6.Lubricate and adjust power plant equipment on a regular basis, operate boiler control board in manual mode for soot blowing.
8.Perform cleaning assignments in plant as required in standing/order book.
9.Perform assigned preventative maintenance (FMS) as designated by supervisor
10.Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
11.Fills open shifts when they arise due to vacation, comp days, and personal days
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE1.Knowledge of the principles of operation of industrial type heating systems.
2.Knowledge of the types and uses of industrial type heating systems.
3.Knowledge of the principles of pneumatics as applied to heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems.
4.Knowledge of the types and uses of pneumatic controls used in power plant operations.
5.Knowledge of calibration and/or adjustment techniques as applied to pneumatic control systems.
6.Knowledge of the types and uses of precision measuring equipment used in a power plant such as manometers, voltmeters, anemometers, tachometers, etc.
7.Knowledge of the principles of operation of internal combustion engines.
8.Knowledge of the safety practices and procedures followed in power plants.
9.Knowledge of the types and uses of high and low pressure boilers.
10.Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques used in firing and operating high or low-pressure coal or oil-fired boilers and their auxiliary equipment.
11.Knowledge of the methods of general report writing.
12.Knowledge of the proper methods for storing and handling fuels.
13.Ability to lift heavy objects.
14.Ability to adjust to changing situations to meet emergency or changing programs or production requirements.
15.Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans, specifications, blueprints, drawings, technical manuals, etc.
16.Physical stamina and endurance.
18.Mechanical aptitude.
