Substation Engineer

Substation Engineer, Level 3

As a Substation Engineer, Level 3 you will work on all assigned substation projects from conception (Early Stage) through construction and commissioning (Execution). In the conceptual phase you will work with the Early-Stage Project Manager to support engineering requirements and scope with the Development Group.

Location:

Juno Beach, FL. 1-year contract assignment (W‑2) with some travel within North America.

• Secure engineering consulting resources from approved suppliers by developing a scope of work, securing bids, evaluating, and awarding work through the Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Group.
• Coordinate with other project team members and transmission owners to develop and secure a switchyard site, support engineering updates, data, and permits necessary to develop the switchyard.
• Competitively source, select, and contract geotechnical, survey, engineering, and construction services, and support the E&C Cost Estimating Team with scope assumptions.
• Coordinate with other groups to ensure assigned E&C switchyard projects are successful, representing E&C’s internal and external interests on projects, including presentations/briefings on progress, issues, and risk mitigation in meetings with various levels of management.
• Support Transmission Services during the review of interconnection documentation such as system impact studies, facility studies, reactive and harmonic studies, and interconnection agreements, ensuring Transmission Owner requirements and E&C engineering design are consistent.
• Work with and communicate often to transmission owners/operators/ISOs to ensure project deliverables meet specific off‑taker requirements and are accurate.
• Manage all project long‑lead major material orders to minimize risk of delays or budget overages. Assist ISC with all switchyard project SOW creation, approval, and preparation of shopping carts for engineering services and materials promptly.
• Support E&C Estimating with template updates via project feedback, technical support, and scope modifications.

• Prefer a bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering.
• 11+ years of experience in substation design and engineering of high‑voltage substation/switchyard projects.
• Project Engineering or Project Management experience.
• PMP or P.E. in a related discipline.
• Some travel required within North America.

Base salary range for this position is estimated to be $55.00/hr. to $60.00/hr.
