Paul Revere Museum of Discovery and Innovation – Museum Manager / Assistant to the Executive Director

Location:

Canton, Massachusetts. The position is on-site, part-time (26 hours per week) and is scheduled on a rotating three-day cycle: week 1 – Wednesday, Thursday, Friday; week 2 – Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday.

Schedule and Hours

Workdays are seven hours long, from 30 minutes before opening to 30 minutes after closing. The museum is open to the public Thursday and Friday 1pm‑7pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am‑4pm. Working Wednesday 10am‑4pm is reserved for special tours.

Responsibilities
  • Open and close the MoDI, supervise Ambassadors and Volunteers on duty.
  • Sell tickets, memberships and merchandise via Square, engage with and assist visitors, and lead group tours.
  • Manage field trips, private tours and evening events; maintain the volunteer schedule.
  • Post images and video clips on social media and advertise special events.
  • Communicate with contractors and other parties about maintenance, projects, and other operational matters.
  • Provide logistical and operational support for museum fundraising events and similar functions.
  • Draft, proofread, edit documents and archive them in the document management system.
  • Prepare spending proposals for supplies, furniture, memberships and other categories, and execute approved spending.
  • Provide administrative support for board meetings once a month.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and experience in education and/or museum studies preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and customer-service skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills; able to work independently.
  • Must be able to supervise a team of employees and volunteers.
  • Comfortable interacting with visitors of all ages.
  • Physical ability to stoop, walk, stand, climb ladders, lift boxes and furniture up to 30 pounds, and maintain indoor and outdoor premises.
  • Strong technical skills:
    Word, Excel, PowerPoint, web and social media platforms. Familiarity with database management, website management and graphics design preferred.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays and special events as needed.
  • Successful completion of a background (CORI/SORI) check.

Compensation: $23 per hour.
