Sr. Construction Manager, Data Center Construction

Amazon Data Services, Inc. is part of AWS Infrastructure Services, owning the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. As a Data Center Construction Manager (CM), you will help construct industry‑leading, energy‑efficient and cost‑effective data centers that support Amazon’s customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own project scope, quality, schedule, and budget for construction of new builds or general capital projects.
  • Own construction project management and oversight of construction‑related activities.
  • Collaborate with partner teams—Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, Commissioning—to build data centers that meet safety, security, capacity, and cost targets.
  • Lead in your discipline (construction management, building services, architectural, electrical or mechanical engineering).
  • Represent Amazon’s owner’s representative on construction sites, interacting with construction trades.
  • Serve as Amazon’s construction representative on multiple data center building and capital improvement projects from start through hand‑off to operations.
  • Interface with general contractors during bidding, award, execution, punch‑list, and closeout phases.
  • Create construction project scope and request for proposals.
  • Negotiate with general contractors, evaluate bids and proposals with detail and accuracy.
  • Manage and drive cost, schedule, and quality while supervising construction contractors and vendors.
  • Manage project documents, submittals, RFIs, change orders, invoices, quality, scope, and schedule.
  • Lead teams in troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis of equipment failures.
  • Support commissioning, integrated system testing, and oversight.
  • Support operations of installed facilities, reviewing procedures, best practices, and maintenance initiatives.
  • Support capital request creation and analysis of construction progress and financials.
  • Record and report key construction metrics to team members and management.
  • Contribute to initiatives that improve construction efficiency and data center resiliency.
  • Provide constructability reviews for electrical and mechanical designs of new or existing data centers.
Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in construction of data center delivery (design, commissioning, and construction), mission‑critical facilities, or equivalent industrial/manufacturing builds.
  • Experience constructing electrical engineering systems including large‑scale power distribution/generation gear.
  • Experience constructing mechanical engineering systems including cooling systems.
  • Experience in construction or construction program management of large, complex projects involving MEP plants.
  • Experience in project control (cost or schedule) and formulating construction programmes for infrastructure and mission‑critical projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, or 5+ years of construction or project management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience delivering multi‑media environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance projects with expertise in CWA 404, NPDES permitting, groundwater protection, wastewater discharge, and natural and cultural resource evaluations.
  • Experience in Project Controls Standards—including estimating, cost and schedule management, progress measurement, change management, risk management, WBS/CBS/SBS, cash flow, and benchmarking.
  • Experience in environmental compliance and permitting, waste management, contractual and regulatory assessments, environmental permit evaluations and applications, EIAs, and water discharge requirements.
  • Experience developing and implementing environmental compliance programs adhering to regulated waste, water, and air regulations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
