AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. This role supports all AWS data centers, ensuring servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment maintain constant availability.

• Act as the primary escalation point for all facility-related issues.
• Oversee operation and management of routine and emergency services on a variety of critical systems such as switch gear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems.
• Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot facilities within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
• Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and work with the Facility Manager to set team culture.
• Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
• Assist in the build‑out of new facilities and in projects to increase current facility efficiency.
• Work outside of normal business hours for routine maintenance and respond to out‑of‑hours emergency calls.
• Communicate complex technical information to a non‑technical audience.
• Work with IT managers and other business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability and efficiency.
• Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff.
• Establish building performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on all aspects of critical facility operations and maintenance.
• Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other basic administrative tools to perform day‑to‑day tasks.

This role acts as Amazon’s front line for hands‑on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. Engineers maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission‑critical data center facility equipment—including stand‑by diesel generators, 3‑phase electrical systems, UPS units, PDUs, wet‑cell batteries, CRAHU units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water systems, air handlers, pumps, motors, fire/life safety equipment, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment. The Chief Engineer directs, trains, and supports technicians in troubleshooting and operations, implements site‑specific training exercises, manages projects from conception to completion, and collaborates with engineering, automation, processing, and finance teams globally.

• 4+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment, or 8+ years of technical (military/trade school) training and/or experience with relevant data center facilities equipment.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering field or mechanical/electrical trades.
• Operating engineering licenses such as DC II, DC III, or equivalent.
• Stationary Engineering or Building Engineering License.
• Electrical or mechanical Journeyman License.
• CFC license.
• NFPA 70E certification.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Solid leadership and organizational skills.
• Proven self‑starter ability.
• Ability to prioritize in a complex, fast‑paced environment.

The base salary range for this position is 86,400.00 –  USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
