The Data Center Commissioning Engineer (CxE) joins a diverse team of software, hardware, network engineers, supply‑chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles to support the construction and commissioning of Amazon owned data centers. The CxE ensures construction quality meets engineering designs and customer requirements, delivering safety, security, and efficient capacity at the lowest possible cost.

Key Responsibilities

The Commissioning Engineer provides testing and validation oversight of AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure. Responsibilities include reviewing design documents and equipment submittals, leading Factory Witness Testing (FWT), and managing third‑party commissioning vendors during onsite pre‑functional, functional, and integrated systems testing. The CxE owns project success, resolves technical issues, mitigates schedule impacts, shares lessons learned, and contributes to program improvements.

During commissioning the CxE audits vendor activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements. The CxE follows the AWS project reporting format to report commissioning progress and metrics to the Regional Commissioning Manager, leads multiple projects simultaneously, achieves key milestones, and manages project budgets as approved by Finance.

Day in the Life

A typical project involves coordinating with AWS engineering, capacity delivery, operations, and contractor teams to prioritize tasks and resolve issues. The CxE manages the commissioning vendor, executes functional tests, identifies issues, proposes solutions, documents findings, and escalates risks to stakeholders. After project completion, the CxE documents lessons learned and participates in initiatives that drive improvement to the commissioning program.

Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years of engineering, installation, or commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer License.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
Salary and Benefits

The base salary range for this position is  -  USD annually. The package includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D), flexible spending accounts, 401(k) matching, paid time off, parental leave, and mental health support.
