BASIC FUNCTION

Ensures the day-to-day operations of the shift in regard resident/employee scheduling and activities. Ensures federal, state and facility guidelines are followed.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

Coordinate and assign staff duties.

Ensure DSP’s compliance to schedule.

Ensure staff to resident ratios [coverage] is sufficient and meet guidelines for the shift.

Arrange for coverage for the next shift when staff calls in and inputs coverage into the computer schedule.

Reports schedule changes to the Program Assistant.

Supervise and monitor the performance of all Direct Support Professionals on the shift.

On nights, weekends and holidays serves as the Administrator’s designee/representative and will be in charge of the facility in the absence of the Administrator, Program Service Director or Director of Nursing.

Ensure that programs are appropriate and implemented as written and scheduled.

Acts as liaison between the Direct Support Professionals and the QIDPs.

Attend and ensure that all staff under direct supervision attend inservice training and Team Meetings as scheduled.

Daily inspection of the living units for appearance and safety.

Make rounds with oncoming supervisor for next shift.

Ensuring accountability of all residents at all times during the shift.

Properly evaluate subordinate staff using the current employee appraisal system.

Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

Work with Department Heads to ensure resident’s needs are met.

Participate in in-service education.

May be expected to perform the duties of the DSP.

EXPOSURE RISK

At minimum risk of exposure to blood and body fluids in performing normal duties.
At high risk of exposure when performing direct care duties.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Reports to the Program Service Director..

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Direct Support Professionals and all facility staff in the absence of the Administrator, Program Service Direct or Director of Nursing.

QUALIFICATIONS

An aptitude for supervising others and supervisory experience preferred. Must have computer knowledge and skills.

EDUCATION

Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalency.

EXPERIENCE

At least one year experience with individuals with intellectual disability (IID).

WORKING CONDITIONS

Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently throughout the workday.

Subject to frequent interruptions.

Attends ongoing educational experiences pertaining to the position and/or required for licensure/certification of the professional degree to keep current with trends in the field.

May be subject to infectious diseases, waste, conditions, etc., including the potential exposure to HIV and HEPATITIS B viruses.

Works beyond normal working hours, weekends, holidays, other positions and various shifts.

Subject to falls, cuts, bruises, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the working day.

Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset clients, family members, personnel, visitors, etc.

Generally will work in an air-conditioned, heated and ventilated building and may work outdoors

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner.

Role model professional behavior by performing and/or assisting other staff, supervisors, peers, consultants and direct support staff in an effective, cooperative manner, in all duties.

Must be of good moral character.

Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with all consumers, personnel, residents, families, and visitors, etc.
