Salary$36–$40 per hour, final compensation based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit.

The Fleet Shop Mechanic maintains, diagnoses, and repairs company‑owned vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role supports fleet readiness through preventative maintenance, advanced diagnostics, and timely repairs across light-, medium-, and heavy‑ duty assets.
Key Responsibilities- Perform preventative maintenance including oil changes, inspections, lubrication, and fluid checks to minimize downtime.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and braking systems using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
- Inspect fleet vehicles and equipment to determine repair needs and ensure safety compliance.
- Repair or replace components such as engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and electrical systems.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repairs, and inspections performed on fleet assets.
- Ensure all vehicles meet DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards.
- Coordinate with fleet managers and operations teams to schedule repairs and prioritize work.
- Maintain shop cleanliness, organization, and a safe working environment.
- Order and manage parts, tools, and inventory required for repairs and maintenance.
- Respond to breakdowns or emergency repairs, including field service when required.
- High school diploma or GED required;
Diesel or Automotive Technology training preferred. - 2+ years of experience in fleet, diesel, or heavy equipment maintenance.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred for some fleets).
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and diagnostics.
- Troubleshooting and diagnostic expertise.
- Mechanical aptitude and hands‑on repair ability.
- Familiarity with computerized diagnostic software and tools.
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Time management and ability to prioritize workload.
- Effective communication with supervisors and operators.
Physical Requirements
- Work performed in a shop/garage environment, with occasional field repairs.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment, stand for extended periods, and work in varying conditions.
- May require overtime, weekends, or on‑call availability for emergency repairs.
- Experience supporting utility fleets (bucket trucks, digger derricks, service trucks).
- Knowledge of DOT inspections, aerial equipment, and fleet compliance requirements.
- Experience with preventative fleet maintenance programs in construction or utility environments.
