Job Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical and clerical tasks in assisting the after school care director. Employee may perform a wide range of tasks in order to support the program, meet the needs of all students, and ensure the provision of quality supervision for all students. Employee provides one-on-one assistance with academics and behavioral problems and may lead small group activities.

Employee assists lead after school care director with general housekeeping and clerical duties. Reports to the after school care director.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assists with executing instruction and supervision.
  • Constantly monitors the safety and well-being of students; monitors student attitudes and encourages self-esteem; assists students with becoming increasingly independent.
  • Monitors student behavior and helps maintain discipline in the classroom; records time out and in‑class suspension; assists with crisis prevention; restrains students as needed.
  • Assists students with learning; reinforces and clarifies instructions; conducts short sessions on improving study skills; provides one‑on‑one assistance as needed.
  • Maintains standardized records and documentation concerning the progress of students.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in maintaining an orderly classroom; performs repair and maintenance tasks related to school equipment.
  • Performs various clerical duties as needed, maintains records of student progress, develops and files incident reports, and checks daily attendance.
  • Feeds students and assists with any other tasks students are not able to perform for themselves.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Participates in staff development workshops.
  • Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High School diploma.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Physical Requirements:

    Able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools, lift, carry, push, pull objects, and perform consistent light work.
  • Data Conception:
    Compare and judge observable characteristics of data, people or things.
  • Interpersonal Communication:
    Speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, receive instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.
  • Language Ability:
    Read and prepare correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, instructional materials.
  • Intelligence:
    Apply rational systems to solve practical problems, interpret instructions in written, oral or diagrammatic form.
  • Verbal Aptitude:
    Record and deliver information, explain procedures, follow oral and written instructions, communicate effectively in standard English.
  • Numerical Aptitude:
    Utilize mathematical formulas, add and subtract, use decimals and percentages.
  • Form/Spatial Aptitude:
    Inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
  • Motor Coordination:
    Coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
  • Manual Dexterity:
    Handle a variety of office machines, maintain minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • Color Discrimination:
    Differentiate between colors and shades of color.
  • Interpersonal Temperament:
    Deal with people, adapt to performing under stress.
  • Physical Communication:
    Talk and hear, communicate via telephone.
KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • General knowledge of activities performed by the after school care director and daily classroom routines.
  • General knowledge of student handbook rules and emergency procedures.
  • General knowledge of organization and administration principles.
  • Some knowledge of curriculum.
  • Constantly monitor safety and well-being of students, especially in inclusive activities.
  • Motivate students.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment and perform general clerical duties.
  • Maintain order and discipline in a classroom, operate common office machines.
  • Maintain basic files and records.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by assignments.
