Position: PROJECT ENGINEER II

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Project Engineer II reports to the Executive Director of Facilities, Engineering, and Construction. This position is responsible for working on engineering and maintenance projects as assigned, typically on renovation and new construction projects. The role requires the ability to design, manage, and maintain finances as needed for projects, to be self‑motivated, to work collaboratively with engineers and consultants, and to handle multiple assignments concurrently.

RESPONSIBILITIES

& EXPECTATIONS
  • Read and understand construction blueprints/drawings.
  • Work on multiple projects of differing sizes and complexity.
  • Generate project estimates and quotes, cash flow, and corresponding schedules to stay on budget.
  • Provide construction management experience (typically up to $750,000).
  • Perform budgeting, financial tracking, and invoicing.
  • Assist design consultants on facility renovation and new construction, coordinate meetings, and record minutes.
  • Manage construction contractors and vendors.
  • Assist with bidding capital construction projects.
  • Create floor plans or drawings for contractors to price or internal crew scope of work.
  • Coordinate equipment and furniture on projects.
  • Assist with maintenance activities and inspections, providing drawings, archives, and data.
  • Participate in construction progress meetings with contractors on assigned projects.
  • Create cash flow and schedule documents to track and monitor project progress.
  • Document project close‑out documentation.
  • Scan, file, and organize record drawings.
  • Inform the department of work status or completion updates.
  • Team player who works well with others.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Well‑rounded knowledge of construction, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • B.S. in mechanical, electrical, civil, or construction engineering preferred or equivalent experience; architectural degrees also accepted.
  • Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) through ASHE preferred or ability to attain within 18 months of employment.
  • 3‑5 years of experience in consulting engineering or construction management in a healthcare environment.
  • Ability to manage construction projects to meet schedule and budget constraints.
  • Knowledge of architectural, structural, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of regulatory codes in healthcare settings (TJC, FGI, NFPA, NEC, etc.).
  • Experience generating construction budgets and cost estimates, and negotiating bid packages for general trades, mechanical, and electrical work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and construction scheduling software.
  • High level of customer service orientation.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Strategic and efficient thinking.
  • Mature to manage confidential information in a healthcare setting.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday‑Friday, or hours as required by the job. Occasional weekends and off‑shifts.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.
  • Sitting, standing, lifting, and moving during working hours.
