Position Summary
The Aultman EMS Educator is a professional whose primary responsibility is to provide education and leadership to specified First Responders in the community.
Department SummaryThis position is responsible for providing education to EMS who are under our Medical Control. Education will take place at the area Fire and EMS stations.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED
- completion of an EMS Academy-approved EMS instructor course and teaching internship, or equivalent
- At least 3 years of EMS experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Certification/OH Licensure as EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic.
- Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
- Knowledge of EMS theory, practice, and trends.
- Knowledge of current EMS curricular content and education standards.
- Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
- Ability to adapt EMS curriculum to reflect State requirements, local needs, and national trends.
- Knowledge of the delivery of emergency medical services in the State of Ohio.
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies.
- Demonstrated teaching and educational facilitation skills.
- Knowledge of competency-based education principles and methods.
- Ability to assess student performance and progress and to provide appropriate feedback.
- Ability to promote higher-order thinking and problem-solving among educational participants.
- Ability to adhere to established standards for educational quality.
- Ability to maintain complete, accurate educational records.
- Knowledge of EMS educational program accreditation processes and standards.
- Knowledge of State of Ohio EMS Bureau rules and regulations.
- Participates in the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of EMS educational program offerings.
- Assists the EMS Coordinator with development and implementation of all assigned courses at an appropriate training level.
- Assists with System outreach, monthly continuing education, and certificate courses at the appropriate level of training.
- Maintains effective communication within the pre-hospital care system and appropriate clinical areas of the hospital.
- Acts as a customer service liaison between the pre-hospital personnel and the hospital staff. Utilizes proper channels of authority and responsibility. Maintains positive customer relationships with all internal and external customers.
- Prepares and delivers instruction off-site, as needed; supervises the activities of course participants during instructional time.
- Evaluates learner performance, provides feedback, and develops learner remediation plans.
- Participates in continuing professional development programs as appropriate.
- Adheres to established organization and departmental policies and procedures and relevant quality and safety standards.
- May lead, guide, and train staff and student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- 24/7 responsibility for unit/department(s) with varying times depending on scheduled functions.
- On call rotation required.
- Flexes time to interact with colleagues on off hours/shifts.
- Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.
- Colleagues will be required to travel to different first responder locations depending on scheduled functions.
Category I - Includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for spills or splashes of, or mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
