Job Description
SPECIAL EDUCATION ASSISTANT (CROSS CAT)
Harter Elementary
6.5 hours per day, 191 days per year
Step 1 - Hourly Rate $18.95
Required- High school diploma or equivalent
- Educational Aide Permit

- Work as a member of a team
- Assist the teacher to implement the IEP's
- Assist students as needed to fulfill their educational needs
- Help students develop a sense of independence and personal responsibility
- Provide lavatory assistance when necessary
- Assist students during lunch and recreational activities
- Assist students to and from classes
- Assist students on trips
- Understand and maintain the academic and behavioral standards set for the students by the certified teacher
- Assist students loading and unloading on buses
- Assist in active therapy programs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Applicants for this position are required to be Highly Qualified, defined as:
- Two (2) years of college (minimum of 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours)
- Possess an Associate's Degree
- Passed the Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam
Submit a copy of your Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam results, or a copy of your college transcript(s) to verify Highly Qualified status. Applicants must also have a valid Educational Aide Permit, or obtain one immediately upon employment with the Canton City School District. If you do not meet the criteria for Highly Qualified, you are not eligible to apply.
