SPECIAL EDUCATION ASSISTANT (CROSS CAT)

Belden Elementary

6.5 hours per day, 191 days per year

Step 1 - Hourly Rate $18.95

The responsibilities of a Cross Categorical Assistant include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assists the teacher to implement the IEPs
• Assists students as needed to fulfill their educational needs
• Helps students develop a sense of independence and personal responsibility
• Provides lavatory assistance when necessary
• Assists students during lunch and recreational activities
• Assists students to and from classes
• Assists students on trips
• Understands and maintains the academic and behavioral standards set for the students by the certified teacher
• Assists students loading and unloading on buses
• Assists in active therapy programs
• Performs other duties as assigned

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

• Two (2) years of college (minimum of 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours)
• Possess an Associate’s Degree
• Passed the Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam

Applicants must submit a copy of their Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam results, or a copy of their college transcript(s) to verify their Highly Qualified status. Applicants must also have a valid Educational Aide Permit, or obtain one immediately upon being employed with the Canton City School District. If you do not meet the criteria for Highly Qualified, you are not eligible to apply.
