Special Education Assistant (Cross Category) – Crenshaw Middle School

6.5 hours per day, 191 days per year | Hourly Rate: $18.95

Requirements:

• Educational Aide Permit

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of a Cross Categorical Assistant include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assist the teacher to implement the IEPs
• Assist students as needed to fulfill their educational needs
• Help students develop a sense of independence and personal responsibility
• Provide lavatory assistance when necessary
• Assist students during lunch and recreational activities
• Assist students to and from classes
• Assist students on trips
• Understand and maintain the academic and behavioral standards set for the students by the certified teacher
• Assist students loading and unloading on buses
• Assist in active therapy programs
• Perform other duties as assigned

Highly Qualified:

Applicants must have either two (2) years of college (minimum 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours), an associate’s degree, or have passed the Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam. Documentation (Praxis results or college transcript) must be submitted with the application. Applicants must also have a valid Educational Aide Permit or obtain one immediately upon employment. If you do not meet the criteria for Highly Qualified, you are not eligible to apply.
