TitleSpecial Educational Aide/Teacher Aide – Assisting with any student needs including academic, behavioral, medical and self-care needs.
Job ObjectivesPerforms a variety of non‑teaching classroom support and student personal care services as directed under the supervision of an assigned teacher.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma.
- Be able to obtain CPI training certification (training provided by school district).
- Paraprofessional certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Willingness to assist with diapering, self‑care, feeding, behavioral needs and/or basic academic tasks.
- Positive tuberculin or other mandated health screening.
- Record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
- Compliance with drug‑free workplace rules and board policies.
- Meet all mandated Ohio Department of Education education/training requirements.
- Self‑directed and able to learn required skills.
- Ability to assist students with disabilities such as mobility, transferring, positioning, etc.
- Congenial disposition and strong diplomacy skills.
- CPI Training.
- Parapro Aide Permit.
- FBI/BCI Background Check.
- Other training when provided.

Appointment may require successful completion of communicable disease, child abuse and neglect, CPR, first aid, and/or behavioral management training.
- Checks with the teacher for instructions, works with small groups and/or individual students, seeks advice when expectations are unclear.
- Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.
- Helps students with remedial and enrichment activities, reinforces instruction, maintains a positive learning environment.
- Offers help when students ask or their behavior suggests they need assistance; avoids being intrusive; solves concerns discreetly.
- Supports an inclusive environment, helps students with disabilities participate in peer group activities as directed.
- Assists with mobility needs and use of assistive/augmentative devices.
- Positions students to take advantage of learning environment (line‑of‑sight, proximity to equipment, height of work surfaces).
- Follows prescribed medical plans and assists with personal hygiene care (toileting, catheterization, etc.) as trained by a licensed professional.
- Helps feed students; complies with personal hygiene rules and sanitation procedures.
- Participates in programmed recreational activities.
- Supervises rest periods and monitors ill students until a parent/guardian arrives.
- Respects privacy, maintains confidentiality of privileged information.
- Ensures staff/student safety, does not leave students unsupervised.
- Monitors behavior indicating problems, intervenes and/or reports concerns to an administrator.
- Maintains high standards, upholds student conduct code, works with teacher to address persistent behavior problems.
- Supervises non‑classroom activities (arrival/departure, lunch, recess, field trips, library, computer lab, etc.).
- Promotes proper use and care of school property, reports discipline problems, vandalism.
- Reports suspected child abuse and neglect.
- Performs clerical work related to classroom activities, prepares and distributes materials, maintains records.
- Helps keep program and storage areas orderly, sanitizes equipment.
- Participates in parent conferences, open houses, and other required school events.
- Participates in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities.
- Accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.
- Wears appropriate work attire, maintains a neat appearance.
- Strives to develop rapport, serves as a positive role model.
- Promotes favorable image of the school district and supports district programs.
