Job Description

This position is Part‑Time, 25 hours per week, 40 weeks, $34.27 per hour for the 2026‑27 school year only.

Proper certification in the grade level and content area is required.

Position: Part‑Time Title Tutor

Reports to: Building Principal

Employment Status: Regular/Part‑Time

Description: Provide tutorial services for students in grades 1‑8, Reading and Math, within the district.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure safety of students.
  • Tutor in assigned subject area and evaluate students using sound instructional practices.
  • Effectively manage individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environment.
  • Prepare clear and timely lesson plans.
  • Evaluate student subject level.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required.
  • Provide guidance and counsel to students to promote their welfare and proper educational development.
  • Attend parent/teacher conferences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, students and parents.
  • Attend educational field trips.
  • Distribute homework assignments.
  • Ensure students are learning all subject material via regular testing or quizzing.
  • Provide complete lesson plans for substitute.
  • Be available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside instructional days.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective use of interim reports, report cards and conferences.
  • Tutor students at designated locations and times.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Refer students suspected of learning disabilities for diagnosis on a regular basis, seeking assistance of district specialists as required.
  • Assist administration in implementing procedures and rules governing student life and conduct; develop reasonable classroom behavior rules and procedures and maintain order fairly.
  • Notify parents if student is not meeting classroom goals.
  • Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined in the content standards approved by the Board of Education.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Demonstrate subject knowledge and provide clear, complete and accurate explanations using variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to learners.
  • Act as teacher, facilitator and information source in subject area specialty.
  • Teach new concepts and facilitate activities enabling students to learn in different ways.
  • Participate in building “teams” when requested and agreed upon.
  • Organize subject‑specific programs within the building (e.g., Right to Read Week).
  • Handle public contacts with tact and diplomacy.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding home, discipline situations, medical background and family history.
  • Interact positively with staff, students and parents.
  • Promote good public relations through personal appearance, attitude, and conversation.
  • Attend meetings and in‑services as required by Principal.

Other Duties: Perform duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Proper certification in the required grade level and content area.
  • Alternatives may be considered by Superintendent/Board of Education.

  • Basic knowledge of all other subject matter.

  • Training in varied instructional methods.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent reading comprehension.

Additional

Working Conditions:

  • Occasional travel daily and overnight.
  • Occasional interaction with unruly children.
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
  • Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, climb, and stoop.
  • Frequent vehicle operation in inclement weather; must be prepared to work all scheduled days except calamity days.
  • Weekend, evening and summer work.
  • Requirement to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds of supplies/equipment.
