Sr. Controls Engineer – Canton, MN

Con Met, a division of Amsted Industries located in Canton, seeks a Senior Controls Engineer to provide electrical and PLC controls technical expertise and support for automated equipment in molding, assembly, finishing areas, and satellite facilities.

• Serve as an expert in programming modifications/improvements on automated equipment to improve safety, uptime, quality, and throughput.
• Collaborate with production supervisors, engineers, maintenance, and process technicians to meet plant objectives related to automated equipment.
• Troubleshoot and advise maintenance/engineering on repairs of electrical/electronic components such as sensors, variable frequency drives, PLCs, motors, motor controllers, servo motion controllers, vision systems, robots, CNC machines.
• Interpret electrical schematics.
• Interface with IT regarding machine networking.
• Contact equipment and parts vendors for support and optimization.
• Coach, train, and mentor team members.

• Four‑year degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline and 5 years of experience in a highly automated manufacturing environment, or equivalent.
• Five or more years of experience as a Controls Engineer in a highly automated manufacturing environment.
• Strong PLC, industrial programming, networking, data collection, and controls skills.
• Proficiency in industrial robotics and vision systems.
• Understanding of MES (Manufacturing Execution System) interfaces with automation.
• Strong computer skills, able to organize databases and create data structures.
• Industrial networking and communication knowledge.
