Hourly rate: $16.05.
Position OverviewThis is a seasonal position for up to 16 weeks. Two openings are available. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or have a permanent resident card, a high school diploma or GED, and be at least 18 years old. Applicants must submit a copy of a valid photo their application.
Position SummaryThis role is conducted under the supervision of a Registered Environmental Health Specialist or other supervisory staff in the Department of Environmental Health. Duties include inspecting facilities, responding to complaints, investigating mosquito and rodent complaints, collecting samples (mosquitoes and birds), applying pesticides for vector control, conducting research, performing office duties, and other tasks as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct inspections under the direction of supervisory staff.
- Conduct rodent, mosquito, and vector control needs assessments by surveying public and private property, including the application of pesticides.
- Record data on appropriate forms/logs and prepare basic correspondence, memos, and reports.
- Assist in nuisance cleanup and recycling center operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preference will be given to individuals enrolled in college or university or who have previous experience in public health.
- Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Respond to public health emergencies.
- Work with restricted pesticides and other chemicals; personal protective equipment, including respirators, may be required.
- Field work may involve climbing ladders, walking on unimproved lands, carrying field equipment, exposure to inclement weather, and other hazards associated with an outdoor environment.
- Work may include nights or other non‑traditional hours.
- Limited travel may be required.
- Office settings involve sitting for long periods and viewing a computer screen for long periods.
- Ability to lift or hoist up to 25 pounds.
Candidates may be required to undergo a drug test and a confidential background investigation. Eligibility is not final until successful completion of these checks.
