The Billing Specialist serves as a patient account rep coordinating with internal departments to verify coding and billing of services rendered and coordinating with insurance agencies to bring accounts up to date.
Daily Responsibilities :- Verification of Benefits
- Checking eligibility and benefits verification, contacting patients and advising of amount due
- Patient Statements, including past due calls and collection action
- Preparing, reviewing, and transmitting claims using billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing (including secondary/tertiary/worker comp)
- Following up on unpaid claims
- Checking each insurance payment for accuracy, contacting insurance company if any discrepancy
- Researching and appealing denied claims.
- Answering patient or insurance questions (in person and over phone)
- Setting up patient payment plans
- Preparing End of Month Reports
- Posting insurance and patient payments
- Entering charges
- ICD-10 and CPT knowledgeable
- Reviewing accounts for credits and preparing refunds
- Minimum 3 years medical billing experience
