Job Description

Provide technical assistance to computer users. This role performs troubleshooting, installation, and configuration of hardware and software under the direction of senior technical staff.

  • Troubleshoot and replace hardware or software.
  • Install hardware or software and verify correct installation.
  • Provide basic hardware or software training.
  • Offer technical assistance to users in person or by telephone.
  • Support senior personnel by performing hardware and software configuration.
  • Log and track trouble calls.
  • Record all steps of problem resolution in the technician work order system.
  • Provide quality customer service by researching and solving problems with available tools.
  • Prepare faulty equipment for shipment to vendors, including appropriate paperwork.
  • Ensure proper backup procedures on LANs and WANs.
  • Perform all tape backup functions.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance as scheduled by senior personnel.
  • Assist with repair of desktop computers, printers, and other peripherals.
  • Meet deadlines on tasks and assignments based on priorities and estimates.
  • Maintain schedule and meet deadlines on multiple long‑term projects in a heavy short‑term workload.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers for successful problem resolution.
  • Exhibit effective written communication skills through logs, correspondence, and procedures.
  • Stay updated on professional developments by reading trade magazines and attending training seminars.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of computer equipment, printers, and related peripherals; working knowledge of Windows and City‑supported software; ability to install PC software packages; basic networking concepts; understanding of backup/recovery procedures on LANs and WANs; self‑motivation and the ability to meet objectives and deadlines under heavy workload; strong oral and written communication skills; valid Ohio driver’s license; physical ability to read, write, use a computer keyboard, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Training & Experience

Minimum of an associate’s degree in electronics, computer science, or related business field; or two years of recent relevant experience in information systems that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
