Plain Local Schools (Stark) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Treasurer.

The Plain Local Schools Board of Education (Stark County) is seeking a qualified treasurer to join a dedicated leadership team that includes a highly committed board of education and superintendent. As the financial leader and expert within the district, the Treasurer is a respected and critical member of the district’s administration, partnering with the board, superintendent, and other administrators to consider, make, and implement critical district decisions.

The Treasurer will be a model of professionalism, articulate and achieve the district’s short- and long-term financial goals, follow all federal and state laws, regulations, and policies, oversee budgeting and auditing processes, and ensure the transparency and accuracy of all district financial matters. The office currently consists of six dedicated staff members. The Treasurer serves as the chief financial officer of the school district and is responsible for advising board members on all financial and budgetary matters and supporting the board of education in its goals for district growth and improvement.

The board looks forward to establishing a collaborative, mutually beneficial relationship with the new Treasurer.

District

Plain Local Schools takes great pride in its long history of student achievement and excellence and is the home of the Golden Eagles. Approximately 5,507 students attend school in the district, the majority of whom reside in the city of Canton or in Plain Township. The district partners with students, staff, parents, and community members to meet the needs of each student by supporting talented educators, creating innovative programs and services, and utilizing all resources efficiently.

The district’s board of education and administration maintain strong relationships with collective bargaining associations, and the Treasurer plays a key role in these relationships. Plain Local Schools is part of a four-district vocational compact and serves as the fiscal agent for that compact. The district is currently engaged in a study with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) related to the master-planning of its school buildings.

Community

Plain Local Schools resides in Stark County’s Plain Township, part of greater Canton city area, known for its manufacturing and agricultural heritage. Canton is recognized as the birthplace of professional football, hosts the NFL Hall of Fame, and offers major highway access. The area is home to companies such as Diebold Nixdorf, the Timken Companies, and a recently opened Amazon distribution facility.

Kent State University, Stark State College, Malone University, and Walsh University also have campuses in the region.

Qualifications
  • Proven leadership capabilities with unquestionable honesty and integrity.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to convey the district’s financial position to board members, staff, and the public in a clear, tailored manner.
  • Experience with and understanding of district operations, including collaboration with building and district administrators and supervision of staff.
  • Strong commitment to building and maintaining positive board/treasurer and treasurer/superintendent relationships.
  • Solid, current knowledge of school law and legislative matters.
  • Track record of successful support for levies and bond issues and prudent management of resources generated by those efforts.
  • Creative thinking and resourcefulness to anticipate and mitigate potential impacts on the district.
Terms of Employment and Compensation

The successful candidate will be offered a multi-year contract. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package is included.
