Position: REGISTERED NURSE - RN - ER

Position Summary

The Aultman Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional nurse that provides direct, primary nursing care to patients/residents. The RN delegates and coordinates patient care, based upon a documented assessment of the patient’s/resident’s needs. The RN supervises the care provided by individuals such as licensed practical nurses, patient care technicians, state-tested nursing assistants, nurse aides, medical assistants, and others, if applicable.

Department Summary

The Emergency Department is a 59‑bed, high-volume unit designed to support a split-flow care model that optimizes patient throughput and aligns care with acuity. The department includes vertical and horizontal treatment zones, a rapid assessment zone, results pending area, and inpatient holding area. Treatment spaces are organized across four care teams and include specialized rooms for trauma, resuscitation, behavioral health, isolation, decontamination, and forensic exams.

The unit is equipped to manage low‑to‑high acuity patients, including those requiring continuous monitoring, advanced diagnostics, and extended care.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Current, active licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.
  • Certification preferred for RNs meeting applicable certification eligibility requirements.
  • Membership in professional nursing organization preferred.
Department Qualifications
  • Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.
  • Obtain and maintain current National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification obtained and maintained, demonstrating competency in evidence-based trauma assessment, intervention, and patient stabilization.
  • Complete required orientation for position.

  • Apply the nursing process of assessment, planning interventions, accurately implementing and/or delegating patient care, evaluating that care, and accurately communicating patient information in a timely manner.
  • Act as a patient/resident advocate in conjunction with other members of the healthcare team and foster patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction.
  • Attain knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
  • Adhere to professional standards and guidelines, including ethical actions, relevant statutes, rules, and regulations, during nursing practice.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and others in the conduct of nursing practice.
  • Exhibit High Reliability Organization (HRO) tools and tones.
  • Provide leadership in the professional practice setting and contribute to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and students.
  • Integrate research findings into practice.
  • Be responsible for timely review of emails, department communications, and applicable learning assignments and completion as applicable.
Working Conditions
  • Meal and break times are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate coverage.
  • Shifts are scheduled or changed due to staffing needs of the unit/department based on volume and acuity.
  • Work weekends and holidays as assigned or as applicable based on department needs.
  • Cross training depending upon department needs.
