Position Summary
The Aultman Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional nurse that provides direct, primary nursing care to patients/residents. The RN delegates and coordinates patient care based upon a documented assessment of the patient’s needs and supervises the care provided by licensed practical nurses, patient care technicians, state‑tested nursing assistants, nurse aides, medical assistants, and others as applicable.
Department SummaryThe Infusion Therapy Center is located in the Timken Family Cancer Center on the main campus. The unit operates Monday through Friday 7:00 A‑5:30 P, Saturday 7:30 A‑4:00 P, and Sundays/holidays as needed. It consists of 44 treatment areas with a mix of private and community infusion suites, focusing on patients requiring chemotherapy, medication administration, blood product administration, and central line care. Many patients have oncological or hematological diagnoses, but admissions are not limited to these types.
Qualifications- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- Current, active licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Maintenance of current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification; training in Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) required.
- Certification preferred for RNs meeting applicable eligibility requirements, including Oncology Certification.
- Membership in a professional nursing organization preferred.
- Chemotherapy education and administration training to be completed within 3 months of hire.
- Proficient computer skills for required tasks.
- Excellent organization, prioritization, and time‑management skills.
- Detail‑oriented with a focus on safe practices and quality care.
- Effective communication and professional interaction with colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors.
- Competent in establishing peripheral IV lines and central venous access (Mediports, PICC lines, Midlines, Hickman catheters), flushing devices, changing dressings, troubleshooting device issues, and safely removing PICC lines when treatment concludes.
- Administration of blood and platelet transfusions as ordered.
- Apply the nursing process—assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation—and communicate patient information timely.
- Act as a patient/resident advocate and promote patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction.
- Maintain current knowledge and competency reflecting up‑to‑date nursing practice.
- Demonstrate quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and adhere to professional standards, ethics, statutes, rules, and regulations.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team in nursing practice.
- Utilize High Reliability Organization (HRO) tools and tones.
- Lead within the professional practice setting and contribute to the development of peers, colleagues, and students.
- Integrate research findings into practice.
- Review emails, departmental communications, and learning assignments promptly and complete them as required.

- Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hydration, and other medications under physician direction and within nursing scope, following hazardous drug safety guidelines.
- Assess patients for changes or drug reactions and initiate emergency resuscitation during infusions.
- Facilitate dose modifications with chemotherapeutic regimens in collaboration with the physician based on symptom management and laboratory results.
- Meal and break times coordinated to maintain coverage.
- Shifts scheduled or changed based on staffing needs, volume, and acuity.
- Work on weekends and holidays as assigned or required.
- Cross‑training performed per departmental needs.
