Position: STAFF NURSE - MICU

Aultman Registered Nurse (RN)

The Aultman Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional nurse that provides direct, primary nursing care to patients/residents. The RN delegates and coordinates patient care, based upon a documented assessment of the patient#s/resident#s needs. The RN supervises the care provided by individuals such as licensed practical nurses, patient care technicians/state tested nursing assistants/nurse aides, medical assistants, and etc., if applicable.

The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) is located on the third floor, east wing of the Memorial Building and consists of 20 rooms, with two rooms designated for Airborne Infectious Isolation. Rooms are equipped with hardwire monitoring with the capability to perform acute dialysis. The MICU is designed for care specializing in critically ill patients requiring advanced life support and close monitoring, including those with respiratory failure, hemodynamic instability, severe metabolic disturbances, acute neurologic events, toxicologic emergencies, renal failure requiring CRRT, multi-organ dysfunction, septic shock, and the need for continuous titration of high-risk intravenous medications.

Common candidates for admission include:

  • Patients who require acute ventilatory assistance
  • Hemodynamically unstable gastrointestinal bleeding patients
  • Unstable patients with diabetic keto acidosis
  • Ischemic stroke patients requiring TNK administration/Post Intervention
  • Unstable drug overdose and/or suicidal patients
  • Patients requiring Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
  • Patients with multi-system organ failure
  • Patients with diagnosis of unstable septic shock
  • Patients whose condition requires IV infusion and titration of medications with vasodilator, vasopressor or anti-arrhythmic effects.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Current, active licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.
  • Certification preferred for RNs meeting applicable certification eligibility requirements.
  • Membership in professional nursing organization preferred.

Department

Qualifications:

  • Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.
  • Obtain and maintain current National Institute#s of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • Certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Certified Nurse in Critical Care (CNCC) certification must be obtained within six months of hire and maintained in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Training classes are sponsored by the Education and Development Department.
  • Complete required orientation for position.
