Purpose of Position
The Skilled Tradesman reports to the Director of Construction Services and is responsible for providing installation and support of skilled carpentry, construction, and painting in a healthcare setting. The position requires the ability to perform a wide variety of tasks in the construction field such as designing, fabricating, and installing millwork and specialty furnishings. The position also requires the ability to perform light‑range tasks necessary for construction projects in other trades such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.
Responsibilities& Expectations
- Read prints regularly for construction
- Assist in ensuring that the hospital’s repairs and installations follow appropriate code and keep up with changes
- Work with wood, metal, and other materials to complete a project
- Maintain and install work in a neat, organized, and efficient manner
- Perform measuring, sizing, and cutting tasks
- Serve as a resource for the department
- Operate machinery and power tools comfortably
- Inform supervisor of work status or update on completion of projects
- Maintain work environment and follow infection control protocols
- Demo and install all commercial flooring systems appropriate to codes and standards of healthcare construction
- Demo, layout, construct, and install ceilings, walls, painting, and millwork appropriate to codes and standards of healthcare construction
- Keep sufficient inventory of building materials
- Plan, organize, and maintain project schedules
- Work as a team player and collaborate with others
- Perform other renovation duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Minimum of 10 years construction experience preferred
- Minimum of 5 years prior healthcare work experience preferred
- Strong skills in all aspects of construction
- Provide a high level of customer service
- Multi‑task and prioritize effectively
- Think strategically and work efficiently
- Maintain a high level of maturity to manage confidential information in a healthcare setting
- 7:00 am – 3:30 pm M‑F or hours as required by the job; occasional weekends and off‑shifts
- Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day
- Sit, stand, lift, and move during working hours
