Job Description
Starting Hourly Rate Range: $23.68 - $32.02
This is a part‑time position with the City of Canton. Employees may work up to 29 hours per week, with schedule determined by the City. The position includes paid vacation, sick time, and a retirement plan.
Eligibility: Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or possess a permanent residence card. Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED, be at least 18 years of age, and have a valid driver's license.
General Statement of DutiesAn employee in this classification will perform calibration, maintenance, and repair of various types of instrumentation, control devices, and electrical equipment, including complex computers, as required for the ongoing operations of the Water Reclamation Facility.
Distinguishing FeaturesMaintenance and repair functions described above, requiring manual dexterity for fine calibration of instruments and controls. Physical mobility for walking, bending, stooping, inspecting equipment throughout the facilities, and occasionally lifting motors, fans, and heavy tools.
Examples of Work- Calibration of all metering and control systems (hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic components)
- Perform frequent inspections to ensure equipment functions properly
- Repair or calibrate equipment as necessary and check motors for proper electrical loading
- Clean motors and determine circuit amperage
- Install, wire, and calibrate new and existing equipment
- Provide temporary wiring for movable equipment
- Install new lighting fixtures and repair existing lighting equipment
- Maintain repair parts inventory and advise management on items to be purchased
- Maintain records of maintenance and repair activities as required by supervision
- Thorough knowledge of computers, electronics, pneumatic systems, hydraulics, telemetering principles, equipment, electricity, motors, and motor controls
- Good technical judgment
- Ability to analyze situations and develop workable solutions
- Ability to present ideas effectively, orally and in writing
- Ability to assist and advise supervision
Associate's degree from a college, university, or training school of recognized standing in electronics and electricity; at least three years of practical experience in similar work; or any other combination of knowledge, training, and experience that provides the necessary skills. Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license at all times.
Additional CompensationWaste Water Treatment incentive pay is provided to employees in this classification who possess a Class I, II or III Certificate issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and are employed at the WRF.
