Job Description
This is a part-time position with the City of Canton. Employees in this position may work up to twenty-nine hours a week, with schedules determined by the City. Employees will be offered paid vacation, sick time and a retirement plan.
Salary RangeHourly pay ranges from $26.12 to $36.50, with progressive steps: $26.12, $27.38, $31.24, $32.81, and $36.50.
EligibilityThis is an open examination. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or hold a permanent resident card, have a high school diploma or GED, be at least 18 years old, possess a valid driver’s license, and meet the City’s other eligibility requirements.
Responsibilities- Operate and maintain electronic instrumentation, plant operating computer‑based equipment, and control devices for the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF).
- Supervise the Senior Instrumentation Specialist and coordinate with other City departments and agencies.
- Troubleshoot, plan, schedule, and assign work related to the department’s equipment.
- Provide technical support for department operations and maintain calibration and repair of electronic controllers, switches, and other instruments.
- Calibrate and monitor the Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) daily and ensure all parameters pass calibration checks.
- Maintain lift station telemetry documentation, software, and reports, and conduct routine off‑site inspections of pump controllers, level‑setting devices, SCADA, and RTU components.
- Contact vendors and suppliers for price quotes and technical support, and prepare technical reports.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
- Thorough knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, electricity, electronics, and construction maintenance principles for wastewater systems.
- Ability to read, write, communicate orally and in writing, and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to train and supervise other employees.
- Computer proficiency including keyboarding skills and the use of various electrical and mechanical tools.
- Ability to diagnose problems and interpret complex engineering drawings or electronic schematics.
- Experience with programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
- Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, lift, and walk for investigative duties related to WRF operations.
- Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license.
High school diploma or equivalent, plus a two‑year electrical/electronic technical degree or equivalent experience. Minimum five years of experience with electronic and computer‑based equipment or a comparable combination of education and training is required.
EducationMinimum:
High school diploma or GED. Preferred:
Two‑year degree in electrical or electronic technology.
Wastewater Treatment incentive pay is available for employees who possess a Class I, II, or III Certificate issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and are employees of the WRF.
