The Logistics Leader oversees all daily shipping and logistics functions to ensure the accurate, timely, and compliant movement of forgings to customers, vendors, and internal departments. This role supervises a Logistics Coordinator and union hourly employees, coordinating scheduling, shipment documentation, customer dispatches, and communication across Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Sales.
The Logistics Leader is accountable for shipping accuracy, workflow optimization, documentation quality, carrier coordination, and departmental compliance within ISO standards. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced heavy manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Shipment Scheduling & Execution: Plan, schedule, and coordinate all outbound customer shipments in alignment with production priorities, customer delivery requirements, and Production Control forecasts. Ensure uninterrupted flow of product to customers, subcontractors, and vendors. Collaborate with Operations and Quality Control to confirm order readiness, packaging, certification, and shipment accuracy. Allocate daily work assignments to Logistics Coordinator and union employees to meet shipment deadlines.
- Documentation & Compliance: Prepare, verify, and maintain all shipping documentation, including pack lists, Bills of Lading (BOLs), certifications, traceability records, and shipping notices. Ensure accuracy and completeness of all shipping paperwork prior to truck departure. Maintain ISO documentation, procedures, and audit‑readiness for the Logistics area. Maintain records for daily shipments, inventory movement, and departmental metrics.
- Inbound Delivery Coordination: Direct all inbound deliveries of customer forgings from vendors. Direct incoming drivers, validate deliveries, coordinate inspection needs, and ensure timely movement to appropriate departments. Communicate with Procurement, and Operations regarding expected shipments.
- Inventory, Materials, & Equipment Oversight: Track and communicate available finished goods inventory and shipment‑ready material to Production Control and Procurement. Maintain adequate supply of shipping materials such as pallets, banding, protective packaging, and documentation supplies. Coordinate departmental equipment repairs and preventative maintenance needs with Maintenance department based on shipping needs.
- Leadership & Daily Oversight: Provide daily leadership, direction, and performance oversight to Logistics Coordinator and union shipping personnel. Conduct toolbox talks, train employees on documentation accuracy, safe material handling, and standardized processes. Promote a culture of accuracy, timeliness, and safety. Partner with HR and Production Control on staffing, training needs, and cross‑functional coordination.

Collaboration:
Work closely with Production Control, Operations, Quality Control, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Sales to ensure alignment on schedules and customer delivery commitments. Communicate proactively with customer logistics companies to coordinate outbound logistics, pickups, and delivery requirements.
