Job Summary:

Under semi-direct supervision, responsible for material accountability (receive, identify, inspect, cycle count, record), unloading and/or shipping materials and supplies in the operation of the RDC and storage yards. The following list of accountabilities sets forth the principal duties required for the job that are normally to be performed.

Responsibilities
  • Issue material under proper authorization and process required records, including picking up, hauling, and delivering materials and operating company automotive equipment such as cars and trucks.
  • Check received material for quantity; make visual inspection for identity, breakage, and condition; unload and put away; initiate and process material receipt and related records.
  • Report irregularities and abnormal conditions. Identify, sort and record material returned; place usable material in stock, and sort non‑usable material into scrap containers; record applicable information and process related records.
  • Assist with the processing of order picks for satellite storerooms served and completing related records. Operate computer terminals and printers supporting a materials management system and other office equipment such as calculators, scanners, etc.
  • Prepare and pack material for shipment or storage, including preparation of required shipping papers and other related records. This may include shipping and receiving hazardous material such as gasoline, oil, oil containing PCB, and lead‑acid batteries under required safety and environmental procedures.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as hand trucks, forklift trucks, low‑lift trucks, hoists, overhead cranes, order pickers, or any other equipment as required.
  • Assist in maintaining efficient storage of materials, rearrange or change of bins and racks, and make material location changes.
  • Assist in maintaining adequate inventory levels based on current requirements through inventory cycle counts; perform discrepancy adjustments with appropriate approval and process all associated records.
  • Assist employees of equal or higher classification. Perform similar or less skilled work. Perform duties in accordance with company safety rules, operating regulations, and practice.
Qualifications – Material Handler B
  • Education:

    High School Diploma or GED.
  • Work Experience:

    Minimum one year in inventory control and management, material handling, warehousing, or related experience.
  • Physical Ability:
    Must be able to safely lift up to 70 pounds and successfully complete the Physical Ability Test (PAT).
  • Licenses &

    Certifications:

    Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL); must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law and must be recertified as required.
  • Operational

    Skills:

    Ability to operate material handling equipment, including motorized forklifts and road vehicles.
  • Computer

    Skills:

    Basic computer skills for inventory management software such as Maximo;
    Microsoft Excel and Word experience preferred.
  • Additional:
    Strong working knowledge of logistics related to shipping and relocating inventory; basic math functions; ability to work independently and possess good communication skills.
Qualifications – Material Handler A
  • Education:

    High School Diploma or GED.
  • Work Experience:

    Must have satisfactorily performed the duties of Material Handler B for a minimum of 24 months.
  • Physical Ability: A Physical Ability Test (PAT) is required.
  • Licenses &

    Certifications:

    Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.
  • Operational

    Skills:

    Must be able to operate store material handling equipment and road vehicles.
  • Knowledge:
    Good working knowledge of all Material Services instructions and procedures as they apply to regular job responsibilities.
